THE NEW MATH black social political parody Limited Edition 9” x 12” signed paper print of artwork by Issa Ibrahim

$25.00

This is a paper print of a painting from 2015. The complicated history of Black America is constantly being retold and resold to the curious and those hungry for a real slice of passion and pathos. Rarely do the people intimately involved and affected by the African diaspora get to have a legitimized voice or place at the table of serious and qualified public discourse about their own lives and fates. I believe, like a metaphysical DNA signature, we all have an equation that would indicate where we’ve been, what we’ve seen and been through, and ultimately an integer to our potential. In this life-size painting entitled The New Math, I imagine my own personal equation, leading to a proof of my life as a schizophrenic entertainer, like so many institutionalized bluesmen and jazz musicians of the 20th century. I too have my own trajectory in the White Supremacist American Penal/Mental Health System, where the ignorance and resistance to my culture is met with locked doors and forced treatment. While creating this work I had hoped to send a powerful message, to be the last incarcerated black man…but sadly, somehow, I doubt it.

9” x 12”, signed by the artist.

Comes with signed Certificate of Authenticity.
